Finger Plays

I found a treasure in my grandmothers library of German finger plays written in 1700.

If was from these finger plays we begin to reach our daughter with FASD, tactile defense and SI issues. I share some favorites with you, some we've made up and some we've found.

Teddy Bear Garden

(allowing us to touch her hands, arms and face)

Round and round the garden
(draw circles with your index finger on palm of childs hand.

Goes the Teddy Bear
(keep drawing circles on palm)

One step, two steps
(make marching steps with index and middle finger on palm off hand)

Ticky right there
(rub index and middle finger on palm in tickling motion)

Over the mountains
(run fingers over little finger to tip)

Under the hills
(run down between fingers and go up and down between fingers)

Down in the valley
(tickle on the palm of the hand)

Where the little girl lives
(see if child gives permission to give quick ticket on tummy)

My Hands (for Body Awareness)

My hands upon my head I'll place
Upon my shoulders, on my face,
At my waist, and by my side,
And then behind me they will hide.
Then I'll raise them way up high,
And let my fingers fly, fly, fly.
Then clap, clap, clap, and one, two, three.
Just see how quiet they can be.
